The Art of Delft Blue – Exclusive Masterclass
Experience an inspiring day where you will learn to apply the centuries-old painting techniques of Delft Blue yourself. Under the guidance of master painter Wilma Plaisier, you will work step by step: from sketch to your own artwork on porcelain made by HUSK Ceramics.
You’ll gain access to expertise, techniques, and recipes that are usually kept behind studio doors. By the end of the day, you will have created a personal, hand-painted plate or vase – a unique piece of art that will later be professionally kiln-fired.

Program of the Day
From 09:30 – Welcome with coffee/tea and a short introduction
10:00 – Start of the masterclass
Introduction by Master Painter Wilma Plaisier
Discover the story behind Delft Blue and Wilma’s personal journey as both an artist and craftswoman.
Materials & Techniques
Wilma will guide you through the world of porcelain, bisque, brushes, and paint. You’ll learn not only how to use them but also gain access to her professional knowledge and recipes, including tips on where to source your own materials.
Step by step – both theoretically and practically – you will learn and apply all the basic techniques of traditional Delft Blue. Topics include: design, pattern division, profiling, sketching, and creating pounces/stencils. You’ll also practice using different types of brushes and the various painting techniques that go with them.
Practice on Bisque
You’ll start by working on a test piece, allowing you to get familiar with the materials and experiment with different brush techniques.
Creating Your Design
We’ll discuss how to transfer your sketch onto the final piece (plate or vase), after which you’ll begin creating your own design.
12:00 – 12:30 – Group lunch break
Continue Painting Your Final Piece
In the afternoon, you’ll have plenty of time to develop your unique plate or vase, with personal guidance. Ask questions, dive deeper into techniques, and get inspired.
15:00 – Short coffee/tea break
16:30 - 17:00 – Finishing your piece and closing the day
Together, we’ll review the results. Your final pieces will remain behind and be professionally kiln-fired by HUSK Ceramics. Once your artwork is ready, you’ll be notified, and you can either pick it up or have it shipped to you. You’ll leave with new knowledge, inspiration, and soon, a beautifully handcrafted piece of art.
End of masterclass around 17:00
Note: HUSK Ceramics will need about 2 weeks to fire all of the pieces made during the Masterclass. After firing, the pieces will be oven, microwave and/or dishwasher safe.
